Managing all aspects of the user independent of the desktop – lowering desktop management costs, reducing complexity and mitigating risk
User adoption is critical to the successful implementation of any new computing environment, accurate management and migration of user personalization across operating systems, delivery mechanisms and non-persistent desktop sessions ensures a familiar user experience and reduces both the risk and cost of introducing both Desktop Virtualization and/or Microsoft Windows 7.
Personalization constitutes any change a user makes to their desktop. In the past, user changes were stored in profiles which were often subject to bloat, corruption and slow logon times. With user virtualization, Personalization is managed independently from the desktop and is applied on demand to personalize a desktop, regardless of how the operating systems or applications are delivered.
AppSense Environment Manager eliminates the need for user profiles by utilizing registry and file virtualization to automatically monitor, virtualize, re-direct and store the user personalization changes as a separate layer of the desktop. Since this personalization layer is now stored and managed separately, it can be applied ‘on-demand’ to any desktop, operating system or application, regardless of how it is delivered to the user, even to an offline desktop in a disconnected state.
Virtualizing user personalization settings and separating them from the desktop also enables organizations to quickly and easily migrate user settings between desktops, operating systems and delivery mechanisms. Users can therefore be migrated from a physical to a virtual environment or to a new operating system platform such as Microsoft Windows 7 without users having to re-create personalization settings.
