Charles Sharland Chairman and CEO
Charles Sharland is CEO and co-founder of AppSense Limited. Charles developed the broad vision and continues to lead the company's culture of technical innovation and product competitiveness. Charles' direction has created a rapidly growing company employing over 150 people across 6 separate locations in the United States, Europe and ANZ.
Prior to AppSense Charles founded Vistorm Limited, the information security and infrastructure services provider, growing it from start up to a $50 million company over ten years.
Prior to founding AppSense and Vistorm, he spent 10 years in IT with companies such as HP and Sun.
Gail Hazley ACMA Financial Director
Gail has been Finance Director of the AppSense group since September 2004, is responsible for global financial reporting and controls and has played an instrumental role in driving AppSense's growth. Gail holds a BA Honors degree in Accounting and Finance from Manchester University. She has 17 years senior financial and management experience, the last 10 of which have been in IT.
Prior to joining AppSense Gail worked for the Vistorm Group for 7 years, where she played a pivotal role in raising $40 million funding from 3i, Credit Suisse First Boston and Granville Baird in 2000; one of the largest venture capital transactions in Europe that year.
Before joining Vistorm Gail was Finance Director for Willan Building Services Limited, a company who invented the award winning range of environmentally friendly 'Passive' ventilation products. These products broke new ground in the innovation of environmentally friendly ventilation products. During her tenure, Gail acquired two companies for the Group.
Dr Chris Sulley Vice President of Technology
Chris Sulley is responsible for strategic technical direction and innovation. He has led recent significant pushes into new technologies now incorporated within the AppSense Management Suite, and is driving forward new technical initiatives in Profile Management.
Prior to joining AppSense Chris was Technical Architect at Macrovision Inc. where he led the team that developed the world’s No.1 Software Copy Protection system, used on more than 300 million PCs.
Having held Technical Director and Software Architect positions at a number of leading US and UK companies, Chris's experience spans tactical radio systems, speech recognition, digital rights management, real-time cryptographic systems and Windows systems management.
Chris holds a Doctorate in real-time computing from the University of Bath, a Masters degree (with Distinction) in Information Security from Royal Holloway College, University of London, and a First Class Honors degree in Electrical Engineering also from the University of Bath.
Darren Wedgwood Vice President of Software Development
Darren Wedgwood manages the Development and QA life cycles. Darren has planned and executed a substantial increase in the number of key development engineers and structured the team to enable rapid delivery of technology in addition to research and QA activities.
He has introduced industry best practice development and project management processes and drives pioneering improvement initiatives.
Darren joined AppSense in February 2005 from Amber House, where he was Director of Process and Methodology Consulting Services. He has over 20 years experience in software development in both startup and corporate environments, including 8 years as EDA Development Manager at Motorola.
He has managed large international teams, delivering next generation design systems which have been successfully adopted as worldwide standard by major semiconductor corporations, and has played key roles in the full startup lifecycle through to acquisition.
Darren holds a BSc Honors degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and holds patents for his inventions in Field Programmable Gate Array technology.
Tony Clarke Vice President of Sales
Tony joined AppSense in 2003 as the Territory Manager for Northern Europe responsible for sales operations and business development. A combination of revenue success combined with sound people management resulted in his appointment as VP of Global Sales earlier this year. Tony ensures a strong sales culture and commitment throughout the AppSense commercial team.
Prior to joining AppSense, Tony spent eight years with Vistorm, the security and infrastructure integrator, concluding as VP of Sales with $50m revenue in 2002. Tony was responsible for growing the Managed Internet Security division from inception through to a major business operation.
Before moving into IT Tony spent 10 years in engineering with companies such as Schlumberger Industries and Jeep Inc.
Paul Szemerenyi Vice President of Sales, North America
Paul Szemerenyi leads the US team of sales, pre-sales and services. He is responsible for growing the company's Enterprise business in the US market.
Paul has served in a number of management roles from his duties as an Officer within the Royal Navy Submarine Service, to the storage industry, where he worked for large US blue chip organizations. He has been instrumental in the growth and evolution of sales organizations through successful pipeline development, sales segmentation and innovative high growth strategies.
Paul brings 10 years of sales management experience to his role at AppSense. Previously, he served as Alliances Manager, UK & Ireland, at Quantum, the Global leader in Back Up Recovery & Archive (BURA). Prior to joining Quantum, he spent three years with Veritas Software where he served as Business Development Director within the City of London Financial Sales team.
Paul holds a BA(Hons) degree in History from Surrey University.
Steven Endress Vice President of Sales DACH Region & Managing Director of AppSense GmbH
Steven Endress leads AppSense business in the DACH region, Central and Eastern Europe. Steven is a four year veteran of AppSense over which time he developed a successful contracts group, doubling post-sale revenues and increasing technical support and new license business.
Prior to AppSense, Steven worked at IBM's European HQ in Germany and also spent time living and working in his country of birth, Switzerland.
Steven holds a BA in Business Studies from Coventry University.
Sean Walsh Vice President of Sales and Business Development Australasia
Sean Walsh is responsible for the development and management of sales and end user growth for AppSense within the Australia & New Zealand region. Walsh also guides the Sales & Technical teams forward. Key achievements include consistent % and $ growth over the past 5 years; growth of channel & technical depth in the region and added to the sales team to build future growth.
Sean has been working in the IT industry since 1997, starting in the UK head office of Cabletron and has over 10 years channel/enterprise and sales management experience. Prior to joining AppSense Sean was Southern Region Channel Manager for Citrix Systems and National BDM for Citrix at Express Data prior to that.
Walsh holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Information Management and Finance from the University of Westminster, London
Tony Bolland Vice President of Alliances
Tony Bolland is Vice President of Alliances and co-founder of AppSense. Tony served as CEO from 2001 to 2004 and helped to form the commercial and technical platform on which the company continues to grow rapidly.
In his role as Vice President of Alliances, Tony is responsible for developing business in the rapidly growing application delivery and virtual desktop market through global system integrators such as CSC, EDS, HP and Capgemini.
Prior to AppSense, Tony was a founding member of Vistorm, the information security and infrastructure services provider where he served as Sales Director, growing revenues from start up to a $50 million company over ten years.
Tony holds an Honors degree in Business Administration and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Martin Ingram Vice President of Strategy
Martin Ingram provides the strategic direction for the company's products, ensuring that they meet with current and future customer requirements. He has driven the expansion of the AppSense Management Suite to encompass a broader array of operating system support as well as solutions for the desktop. Martin provides vital guidance to the research and development team around information security, corporate compliance and the legal issues of technology.
He is recognised within the industry as a senior commentator within the Application Delivery space.
Martin has 15 years industry experience and has held senior strategic product management and engineering positions at leading technology companies in the UK and US, including: Kalypton, Clearswift, Baltimore Technologies, Content Technologies, Avid Technologies and Tektronix.
Martin holds an Electrical Engineering Degree from Sheffield University.
Simon Rust Vice President of Product Management
Simon Rust leads the product direction for the User Environment Management product line.
Prior to joining AppSense in 2001, Simon spent 8 years working with early Citrix technology as a Technical Architect in some of the largest companies across Northern Europe, specialising in the delivery and management of applications. Simon is recognised within the industry as one of the leading technologists for application delivery and profile management. This discipline enables Simon to successfully drive the Profile Management Strategy for AppSense.
Simon holds a BSc in Computer Science, is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer as well as being a Citrix Certified Administrator.
Peter Rawlinson Vice President of Marketing
Peter Rawlinson has overall responsibility for global marketing activities, including strategic direction, channel marketing programs, branding and communications.
Peter has extensive experience in the IT sector, having held senior positions both in the UK and the US. Peter co-founded electronic commerce company Intelisys in New York, where he created and managed a global marketing team responsible for a $100M product line and developed alliances with Microsoft, Citrix, IBM, Motorola and JP Morgan/Chase amongst others.
With over 15 years of software marketing experience, Peter has successfully managed and marketed Enterprise software solutions including Document Management with OpenText Inc (OTXT) and Contract Management with iMany (IMNY). Peter has been active in the application delivery space for several years and works closely with AppSense key customers and partners to ensure optimal market knowledge and messaging.
Peter holds a BSc Honors degree in Physics from Sheffield University.
